Easter is coming up this weekend. Today is Good Friday. I often wondered why they call it Good Friday. It wasn’t really a good day. It was the day Jesus was crucified on the cross for my sins (and yours, and yours, and yours). Think about it, though, it really is a Good Friday because if Jesus had not died, I would not have a way to have eternal life. There is no way I could keep all the old laws, none of could and we would all be doomed to an eternity of torment.
As I reflect back on my life, I think about how 3 days made all the difference in the world. After Jesus was crucified, the apostles and many others seemed hopeless. They had thought Jesus was their answer, and He was. He had told them all during his ministry that He would be back, but their faith faltered when they watched Him die. I have to admit, I would have been grieving right there with them. Then that glorious morning, Resurrection Day, He rose and now we can have eternal life forever!
Have you ever noticed in your own life how things seem hopeless like on that dark Friday? I know I certainly have. Just as it seemed hopeless to those who were closest to Jesus, Resurrection Day holds special meaning. It shows us how a mere 3 days can change everything.
I think about a friend of mine many years ago, he had been hurt on the job and the job was not going to continue to pay what they should. My friend could not find an attorney, he could not get a job, his doctors had said there was nothing more they could do and he would be in pain the rest of his life, he felt hopeless and helpless, but did not reach out for help. He killed himself on the very same morning that people from his work were trying to get in touch with him because the company was going to do the right thing and pay him a large settlement, another friend had found a doctor who had successfully helped someone else with the same injury and was going to help our friend, and someone else had found a job he was going to be able to do even with his injury.
Friends, if you feel hopeless or helpless, first seek help. Second, do not make any life-changing decisions without waiting at least 3 days. Your Resurrection Day is coming, it really is. Jesus is our hope, but we have to wait on His timing. He is never early, but He is never ever late – He is an on-time God. So hang in there, it does get better. I promise. I have faced the dark times and always the light of Jesus came in at the last minute and He will do the same for you, just trust Him.
