This week in children’s church we conquered the Fruit of the Spirit, Love. With the kids getting back to school I challenged them to seek out kids who are left out or different and show God’s love to them. I know other kids may not be nice to them if they do what I asked, but I tried to express to the kids in church that God sought out the unpopular people and spent time with them. We read in Luke where Jesus said that well people didn’t need a doctor, only the sick and that’s why he sought out the sinners. They were the ones who needed Him.
I asked kids some of the things that made other kids different and of course skin color was offered as one difference. I explained to the kids how just because someone’s skin color was different on the outside, when we get hurt, we all bleed red – there is no blood color differentiation and what’s on the inside of a person is what matters.
I do hope we all remember to look for those hurting around us and introduce them to the One who can heal them – the ultimate “doctor” who heals all the deep emotional wounds we all carry. I encourage you to seek out those around you who are unpopular or different hurting and befriend them. Who knows what a difference you can make for that one person!
